Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP)

Test

Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP)

The alkaline phosphatase test (ALP test) analyses the level of alkaline phosphatase enzyme in your bloodstream. This test requires a simple blood draw and is often a routine test coupled with other blood tests. The normal range for a serum ALP level in healthy adults is 20 to 140 IU/L but varies slightly among different laboratories. Nevertheless, the normal range of ALP can vary from person to person depending on age, blood type, gender, and pregnancy.

This test can identify abnormal levels of ALP in your blood which often indicate underlying health problems regarding the liver, gallbladder, or bones. In addition, the abnormal levels can also indicate malnutrition, kidney cancer tumors, intestinal concerns, pancreas concerns, or a serious infection.
