Progesterone
Test
Progesterone
This test is performed on an individual to measure the amount of progesterone hormone in the blood. This hormone plays a vital role in pregnancy as it prepares the body to support a fertilised egg. It also triggers milk production in lactating women.
Doctors usually recommend having a progesterone test to:
- To find out why a woman is not able to conceive
- Check if and when a woman is ovulating
- Check whether a woman is at a high risk of miscarriage during pregnancy
- Monitor a high-risk pregnancy
- Diagnose an ectopic pregnancy ( a condition when a fertilised egg implants outside the womb instead of inside the womb)
