Thyroxine – Total (TT4)
Test
Thyroxine - Total (TT4)
The Thyroxine Total test measures the level of thyroxine (T4) in your blood. This test measures both the forms of T4, i.e. the ones without a protein bond (free T4).
This test is used to diagnose diseases occurring due to hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism. Symptoms like irritability, loss of sleep, and rapid heartbeat indicate hyperthyroidism. Hypothyroidism symptoms include weight gain, fatigue, problems in the menstruation cycle, etc.
Test
Thyroxine - Free (FT4)
Thyroxine-Free (FT4) is a test that measures the levels of T4 hormones that are not bound to proteins or circulate freely. The diagnostic purposes are the same as that of the TT4 test.
Both the tests, TT4 and FT4, require no prior preparation as it is a simple blood test.
