Weil – Felix Test
Test
Weil - Felix Test
Doctors use the Weil-Felix test to diagnose Typhus and particular Rickettsial illnesses. Rickettsia is a bacteria spread by ticks, fleas, and lice that causes diseases in humans.
Microorganisms produce diseases such as typhus, Rickettsialpox, Boutonneuse fever, African tick bite fever, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, Australian Tick Typhus, Flinders Island Spotted Fever, Queensland tick typhus, Q fever, southern tick-associated rash sickness (STARI), ehrlichiosis, and tularemia. The nature and severity of the infection usually determines the Weil Felix treatment.
If you drink alcohol or use any over-the-counter medicine before the test, your findings may be affected. If you take any prescribed medicine, it is usually a good idea to let your doctor know.
The Weil Felix can be used as an initial rickettsia screening test. Because the test does not provide clear proof, the doctor may order additional tests such as ELISA, immunofluorescence, or Western blot.
