Iron

Iron tests are not individual tests but a group of clinical chemistry laboratory tests used to analyze body iron stores or the iron level in blood serum. Iron tests are also commonly known as the iron panel, iron profile, iron indices, iron status, or iron studies.

Iron is an essential mineral for the human body as it’s used for the production of red blood cells. Doctors prescribe having an iron test to check whether a person has abnormal iron levels in their bloodstream.

When detected, both high and low iron levels than normal can indicate serious health complications such as hemochromatosis.
