Albumin

Test

Albumin

The serum albumin test measures the amount of albumin in the blood, a protein made by the liver. This test is performed to analyze the amount of this protein in the clear liquid portion (serum) of the blood.

Since albumin helps move small molecules through the blood, including bilirubin, calcium, medicines, etc., it plays an important role in keeping the fluid in the blood from leaking into the tissues. This test is performed to determine if you have liver disease or kidney disease or if the body isn’t absorbing enough protein. The normal range is 3.4 to 5.4 g/dL (34 to 54 g/L). However, it may vary slightly among different laboratories.

Albumin (fluid) :
This albumin test requires samples of other body fluids, mainly urine.
