Semen Analysis
A Semen Analysis test is performed to evaluate the health and functionality of the man’s sperm. This test measures the sperm count as well. The semen analysis test measures three important factors:
- The sperm count
- The shape of the sperm
- The sperm motility i.e. the movement of the sperm
This test is done for reasons such as:
- Male infertility (especially couples who are aiming for pregnancy)
- Testing the success of vasectomy done previously
Preparations like avoiding ejaculation 24-72 hours prior, avoiding caffeine and alcohol, no intake of hormone medication, etc.
The individual has to provide a semen sample by ejaculating through various methods.
