Reticulocyte Count

Test

Reticulocyte Count

A reticulocyte count is a blood test that measures the number of reticulocytes in the blood. Reticulocytes are immature red blood cells ( red blood cells that aren’t fully developed yet). This particular blood test can be done to know the following:

  • To determine if someone has a medical condition that causes a low number of red blood cells, such as anemia.
  • To determine if the bone marrow in the body is working well enough to produce new red blood cells.
If an individual has had a blood transfusion, the doctor must inform this since it affects the reticulocyte test results.
