The Red Cell Indices test is a component of the CBC test, where the shape, size, and characteristic of the red blood cell is measured. This test is used to diagnose the cause for Anemia, a blood disorder where the RBCs function poorly.

The Red Cell Indices test is primarily performed to diagnose or learn about the type of Anemia the individual is suffering from. The symptoms of anemia, mentioned below, is the reason for this test being ordered by doctors:

Mainly three elements of RBCs is tested:

  • Average blood cell size
  • Amount of hemoglobin per RBC
  • Hemoglobin concentration as per the size
