Protein – Urine-24 hrs

Test

Protein - Urine-24 hrs

The 24-hour Urine Protein Test is a test that checks the amount of protein being spilled in your urine. The amount of spillage is an indicator of various diseases like kidney damage.

In the 24 hrs Protein Urine test, urine samples are collected in more than one container over the span of 24 hours. This test is done when the individual has symptoms of diseases like nephrotic syndrome. Other than this, this test checks for:

  • High blood pressure
  • Lupus
  • Uncontrolled diabetes
  • Screening for preeclampsia in pregnant women

For the test procedure, the patient has to take a sample of their urine in containers for 24 hours. The first urine of the day has to be flushed, and the next trip to the bathroom will be the first sample. The time has to be tracked.

Protein - Urine-24 hrs Tests

Protein Total with Albumin

The Total protein test measures the two types of protein present in our body, i.e., Albumin and Globulin. This test is included in a regular check-up or advised if you suffer from sudden fatigue, weight loss, and other symptoms pointing towards kidney diseases.

If you have edema, swelling caused by extra fluid in tissues, then this test is suggested. This test measures the overall protein level, with specific values of albumin and globulin, known as the A/G ratio. As it is a simple blood test, no prior preparations are required.

Protein/Creatinine Ratio-Urine-Spot

The Protein/creatinine ratio test is performed to measure the excess amount of protein in the urine. Creatinine, which is a protein byproduct of muscle metabolism, causes kidney damage and diseases.
This test is done for multiple reasons:
  • Monitoring kidney functioning in an ongoing kidney treatment
  • Monitoring kidney functioning in an ongoing kidney treatment
  • Monitoring kidney functioning in an ongoing kidney treatment
  • Monitoring kidney functioning in an ongoing kidney treatment
In both 24 hours and spot protein/creatinine ratio tests, a single urine sample is taken. No prior preparations are required.
