A magnesium test measures the amount of magnesium in a person’s body to determine if they are suffering from abnormal levels. There are two major types of magnesium testing:
- Serum magnesium test: This test is used to measure a person’s magnesium level in their bloodstream.Doctors will prescribe this test mainly to see if a person is suffering from magnesium deficiency.
- RBC magnesium test: This test is more accurate than serum testing. It even determines how magnesium is stored and works with the cells. Doctors would prescribe this test only when serum magnesium test results do not satisfy the condition.
