Hemoglobin

Test

Hemoglobin

This test measures the levels of hemoglobin present in an individual’s bloodstream. Hemoglobin (Hb or Hgb) is a protein in your red blood cells that carries oxygen from your lungs to the rest of the organs in your body. Thus, abnormal levels of hemoglobin in your blood can be indicative of a blood disorder that needs to be treated.

Doctors often recommend a hemoglobin test to check for anemia, a condition in which your body has fewer red blood cells than normal. If a person suffers from anemia, the cells in their body don’t get enough oxygen as required. An average hemoglobin count varies from 130-180 in adult men and 115-165 in adult women.
