Fluid Analysis

Test

Fluid Analysis (Other Fluids), Fluid Analysis-Ascitic

The Ascitic Fluid Analysis is a test where the water from Ascites, a condition identified by accumulation of water in the abdomen, is drawn to check for its characteristics and presence of essential proteins and cells.

This test is recommended to:

  • Diagnose the reason for the accumulation of fluid in the abdomen
  • Diagnose fever and abdominal pain with cirrhosis
  • Analyze infections in a patient with cirrhosis
  • Determine internal injuries
  • Encephalopathy for a cirrhotic liver condition

No prior preparations are required. The Ascitic fluid is obtained from the abdomen after locating the Ascites.

Test

Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH)

The Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) test measures the level of FSH hormones in your blood. The FSH is responsible for sexual development and functioning.

This test is used in women to:

  • Diagnose problems in ovaries
  • Identify causes for infertility
  • Identify causes for irregular menstruation

This test is used in men to:

  • Identify the cause for low sperm count
  • Identify the cause for infertility
  • Problems in reproductive organs

Fluid Analysis Tests

Fluid Analysis-CSF

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) is the surrounding clear fluid of the brain and spinal cord. The CSF Fluid Analysis is a set of tests that measure the chemicals in the CSF. The tests look for sugar, glucose, etc.
The test is used to:
● Diagnose Autoimmune Disorders such as multiple sclerosis
● Infectious brain and spinal cord diseases
● Brain tumors
● Bleeding in the brain
The CSF is obtained through a spinal tap. The fluid is obtained near your lower spine. You have to lay on your back for an hour after the fluid is drawn as the procedure causes a headache, nausea, etc.

Fluid Analysis-Pericardial

Pericardial fluid is produced by pericardium membranes that surround the heart. The pericardial fluid is present between the membranes, acting as a lubricant for heart movements.

The Pericardial fluid analysis is performed to diagnose the cause for inflammation of the pericardium and/or accumulation of fluid around the heart. The test is recommended when symptoms like chest pain, difficulty in breathing, coughing, etc., are experienced.

The patient may be given medications before the test procedure. The pericardial fluid sample is obtained by numbing the chest area and inserting a needle between the ribs.

Fluid Analysis-Pleural

Pleural fluid analysis is a test where the pleural fluid is examined. The pleural fluid is the fluid that is accumulated in the pleural space near the lungs. The fluid collection in the pleural space, known as pleural effusion, prevents the lungs from inflating, causing difficulty in breathing.

A Pleural fluid analysis test recommends symptoms like chest pain, fatigue, difficulty in breathing, and dry cough.

This test is performed to diagnose the cause and type of pleural effusion. The fluid is obtained through thoracentesis. No prior preparations are required.

Fluid Analysis-Peritoneal

The Peritoneal Fluid Analysis is a lab test where the fluid that builds up around the internal organs in the abdomen is tested. The fluid is tested for albumin, red and white blood cells, and proteins. The fluid sample is obtained through the abdominal tap.

Fluid Analysis-Synovial Fluid

A Synovial Fluid Analysis is a group of tests that check disorders that affect the joints. It diagnoses the cause of joint inflammation and pain. Diseases like Osteoarthritis, Gout, Rheumatoid Arthritis, etc., are diagnosed. The arthrocentesis procedure is done near the affected joint to obtain the fluid.

Fluid Cell Count

The Fluid Cell Count test measures the cell count in your body fluid. This test helps in diagnosing and treating diseases. The cell count includes red blood cells, white blood cells, and nucleated cells.
