Amylase – Serum

Test

Amylase - Serum

A serum amylase test measures the amount of amylase in your blood. Amylase is an enzyme, or special protein, that helps digest food. Most of the amylase is produced in the pancreas and salivary glands. Hence, a small amount of amylase in the blood is normal.

This test is done to identify abnormal amylase levels in the blood, which indicates a disorder of the pancreas, an infection, alcoholism, or another medical condition.

Amylase - Serum Tests

Amylase-Body Fluid

This amylase test can be performed on the patient's other body fluids such as Pancreatic Cyst Fluid, etc. This test can even be used to detect pancreatic cancer.

Amylase-Urine-Random

An amylase urine test is usually recommended along with or after a serum amylase test. Urine amylase results can help diagnose disorders related to pancreatic and salivary glands.
