Test

Albert Stain (Diphtheria Bacilli)

Albert stain is a microscopic test that detects the presence of Corynebacterium diphtheriae. This bacteria is the causative agent of the disease Diphtheria. So, doctors recommend this test to identify and confirm if a person is suffering from Diptheria. In this test, swabs are taken from the patient’s throat and then used to perform the test with Albert stain. These swabs are then subjected to culture studies inappropriate environments, and then results are evaluated.

Corynebacterium diphtheriae contains a specific component known as metachromatic granules or food granules which appear in a distinct color when exposed to chemical stains. When the healthcare provider observes under a microscope, these granules appear blue-black when exposed to Albert stain.
