The Sodium – Serum test determines the levels of sodium in the blood. The test helps in various ways:
- Diagnosing the cause for electrolyte imbalance
- Monitoring ongoing treatments for irregular or abnormal sodium levels
This test is done for regular health checkups, in case of dehydration, instance of edema, and blood pressure issues. It is a simple blood test and requires no prior preparation.

Sodium-Urine-Random
The Sodium Urine test measures the level of sodium in your urine. Since Sodium is responsible for the water and electrolyte balance of the body, the test determines whether you are hydrated and evaluates kidney functioning.
As sodium is present in every cell of your body, this test ensures no imbalances or inadequacy of the mineral. To diagnose the following, a Sodium-Urine test is ordered:
- Hypertension
- Inflammatory kidney damage and kidney disorders
- Cysts in the kidneys
- Dehydration
There are two types of Sodium Urine test: 24 hours and Random or Spot
The Random Sodium urine test requires a single sample of urine. For the 24 hours Sodium Urine test, urine samples are collected over the span of 24 hours and are tested. The prior preparations, if required, will be informed by the doctor.
