Osmolality – Serum
Test
Osmolality - Serum
An osmolality-serum test measures electrolytes, sugar, and waste products in an individual’s blood serum. Electrolytes include sodium, potassium, and chloride, whereas a major waste product comprises urea. Doctors conduct this test to check:
- Low sodium levels
- The reason behind too less or too much urination
- Any edema/high water retention in the body
- Consumption of something poisonous or toxic material
- Chronic diarrhoea
Test
Osmolality-Urine-Random
This osmolality test analyses electrolytes and waste products in a urine sample, unlike the blood sample in the serum test.
The principle of this test remains the same and is used to analyse abnormal sodium levels, diarrhoea, water retention, toxic substances, etc.
