Urobilinogen

Test

Urobilinogen

The amount of urobilinogen in a urine sample is measured by an urobilinogen in a urine test. The decrease of bilirubin produces urobilinogen. Bilirubin is a yellowish substance produced by the liver that aids in the digestion of red blood cells, whereas urobilinogen can be found in normal urine. If your urine contains little or no urobilinogen, it could indicate that your liver isn’t functioning properly.

A urinalysis, which analyses various cells, molecules, and other components in your urine, may include a urobilinogen test. A urinalysis is frequently performed as part of a routine examination.

Your health-care practitioner will need to take a urine sample from you. They will give you specific recommendations to follow in order to ensure that the sample is sterile. The “clean catch method” is what these instructions are known as.
